About Dr. Jayawickreme

Nuwan Jayawickreme, Ph.D. joined the CEH family in 2022, and is a licensed Practicing Psychologist in New Jersey (License no. 35SI00654100). He received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English Literature from Gettysburg College, and his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Dr. Jayawickreme has extensive training in the evidence-based treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and depression. He spent 7 years at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (5 years as a Ph.D. student, 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow), where he received specialized training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) for OCD. In addition, he was trained as a supervisor in PE for PTSD.

During his time at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, Dr. Jayawickreme was a therapist on two research studies: one examining the effectiveness of a combination medication/behavioral treatment for individuals struggling with comorbid PTSD and nicotine dependence, and another examining the utility of adding psychotropic medication to behavioral treatment of OCD.

In addition, Dr. Jayawickreme completed his predoctoral training at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, where he worked and trained in settings that included outpatient clinics and inpatient psychiatric units at a hospital.

Dr. Jayawickreme is also Professor of Psychology in the School of Health Sciences at Touro University, New York, NY, where he teaches in the Clinical Psychology PsyD program. He has published more than two-dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters focusing on PTSD, trauma-related anxiety, depression, measurement issues, war-related mental distress, and the role that culture plays in the development, experience, assessment, and treatment of mental illness. He has also presented at numerous local and national conferences, and has co-edited two scientific journal issues focusing on mental illness in war-affected populations.

Dr. Jayawickreme sees patients at the Princeton office. He enjoys working with adults from all backgrounds. His treatment approach is client-focused, and his goal is to utilize his training and knowledge to tailor a treatment that is both effective and suitable for the individual seeking help. He is fluent in a variety of evidence based approaches that include PE for PTSD, ERP for OCD, Acceptance-Based Behavior Therapy for GAD, and Cognitive Therapy for Depression.
