Comprehensive Psychological Diagnostic Evaluation

What is a Comprehensive Psychological Diagnostic Evaluation?

A psychological evaluation is an in-depth assessment designed to explore various aspects of an individual’s mental and emotional well-being. By examining cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, and behavioral patterns, these evaluations help identify:

  • Mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders.
  • Neurodevelopmental concerns, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or other specific learning disorders.
  • Other biopsychosocial factors that may contribute to an individual’s daily experience
  • Biopsychosocial factors relevant to a larger process, such as child adoption procedures, bariatric surgery, cochlear implant, other pre-surgical assessment.

These evaluations are useful for providing diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations.

Who Can Benefit from a Psychological Evaluation?

You might consider a comprehensive evaluation if you or your child:

  • Experience persistent emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Encounter difficulties at school, work, or in social settings.
  • Struggle with focus, attention, or hyperactivity.
  • Have experienced psychiatric or psychological treatment with limited success.
  • Suspect a learning or developmental concern.
  • Need documentation for accommodations in academic or workplace settings.

Our Evaluation Process

At CEH, our evaluation process is designed to provide a thorough and individualized understanding of your or your child’s challenges. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Intake Consultation

  • For children: Parents meet with a clinician to discuss concerns, developmental history, and the testing process.
  • For teens and adults: The individual attends the intake session to share their experiences and provide consent for information-sharing.

This session helps us understand the key challenges and outline the scope of the evaluation.

Step 2: Testing Session

Testing is tailored to each person’s needs and may include:

  • Cognitive Assessments: Evaluate thinking, memory, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Behavioral and Emotional Measures: Assess mood, emotional regulation, and social interactions.
  • Academic Testing (if needed): Identify strengths and areas of difficulty in reading, writing, and math.
  • Questionnaires and Interviews: Gain additional insights from the individual and significant others (e.g., parents, teachers, other clinicians).

Testing sessions are structured to be supportive and paced for comfort.

Step 3: Feedback and Recommendations

  • A comprehensive report with a clear diagnosis (if applicable) and personalized recommendations for interventions, accommodations, or additional resources will be provided and explained to you clearly in a one-on-one meeting with a clinician who will answer any questions.
