Emma Balkin is a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and serves as the Director of Psychiatric Services at CEH. Ms. Balkin earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience from Colby College. At the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Balkin was a Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) fellow, a program which focuses on training providers to deliver high-quality mental health care for underserved populations. She completed her clinical training at the University of Pennsylvania TEAM clinic and in an outpatient private practice, experiences that sparked her desire to work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health treatment team to serve patients across the lifespan.
During her foundational education, Ms. Balkin volunteered as an EMT on a college campus, where she primarily treated young adults, including responding to mental health emergencies. She also served as a grief support group facilitator for children navigating loss. These experiences fostered her particular interest in understanding the complexities of child, adolescent, and young adult mental health. Ms. Balkin also recognizes the profound impact of sleep on mental health and has received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) through the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, she is committed to expanding access to specialized care for OCD and related disorders, and has completed consultation in this area through the International OCD Foundation.
Ms. Balkin is licensed as an APN/CRNP (Nurse Practitioner) in New Jersey (License #26NJ15577200) and Pennsylvania (License #SP034459). She is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner though the American Nurses Credentialing Center (Certification #2025046701).
