Insurance Billing and Coding 101 for Mental Health Professionals

This is a live interactive webinar presentation.

Navigating the world of insurance in mental healthcare can be challenging for both patients and clinicians. Despite these challenges, understanding the ins and outs of insurance can lead to improved access to quality care. From credentialing and contracting to understanding the terms, standards, and practices of behavioral health billing and coding, this workshop will provide an introduction to working with commercial insurance companies. Benefit verification, preauthorization, billing procedures and coding for psychological assessment and psychotherapy services as an in-network provider will be discussed as well as the process of single-case agreements for individuals as an out-of-network provider.

At the completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Define the terms used in the insurance industry to describe healthcare benefits.
  • Describe the processes of insurance verification and pre-authorization.
  • Utilize CPT codes to effectively bill commercial insurance companies and maximize collection.
